APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Surface Preparation Ensure the substrate is in clean and sound condition and dry. The surface must be free of moss, dirt, oil, grease and loose material. Any moss and lichen growth must be suitably treated and removed. Industrial pollutants or staining on the substrate must be removed which may require a suitable specific cleaner. Clean the surface thoroughly by waterblasting or wire brushing.
Rust Treatment
Rust must be treated prior to Gilsonite Aluminium application. Flaking rust must be removed by sandblasting followed by priming with zinc rich primer or Duromastic Silverleaf. Surface rust must be coated firstly using Duromastic SB150 or Duromastic Silverleaf.
Mixing Directions
Gilsonite Aluminium contains a pigment which settles in the pail over time. A spiral mixer on a variable-speed power drill is recommended. Thoroughly mix to a consistant blend initially and at regular intervals during application to ensure even finish. Note: It is normal for mixed product to be a bronze colour.
Application
Recommended methods are by brush or Airless sprayer. Allow 24Hrs between coats. For optimum speed and efficiency on large roof areas we would suggest a commercial airless sprayer (eg, Graco 695 or larger, 900PSI, 24 to 28 Thou. Tip size). Low pressure is recommended to reduce overspray. Suitable PPE is recommended including respirator mask, full protective overalls, eye protection and nitrile gloves.
Coverage Rates
Typical coverage rates: 10-12sqm/litre/coat on steel and non-porous surfaces. 5-8sqm/litre/coat on bitumen and porous surfaces. Two coats recommended. Allow 24 hours between coats.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Equipment and tools should be cleaned up using Mineral Turpentine.
